Some things to do

Canoeing this is always an extremely popular activity in the summer months. You can go from Limeuil, just 5  minutes away, but the highly recommended starting point is from Les Eyzies, being taken by minibus up the Vézère river and then paddling back to your car: www.canoes-3drapeaux.fr

Horse riding  -  there are excellent stables just the other side of the 2 bridges at Limeuil. You can either go in a group or individual rides can be arranged.

Walking and hiking  -  from right out of the back door there are stunning walks available - Oxbow will be pleased to show you the way (better still to borrow the detailed map as otherwise he’ll take you the longest way!) This has to be the best way to appreciate the wonderful flora and fauna of the area. The wild flowers, especially in the spring, are breathtaking and indeed some are very rare.

Day trips out in the car  - I can propose day trips to suit your personal requirements, taking in the best known sites, a local market or indeed the secret places not often frequented by tourists. The greatest fun can be had by just driving around taking a little side road and seeing where it leads to.

Gardens  - there are some stunning gardens in the Perigord, including the gorgeous Manoir d’Eyrignac, considered to be the best-maintained garden in France and the Jardins de Marqueyssac (www.marqueyssac.com) with its amazing  trimmed box hedges, walks and incredible views over the surrounding countryside. A real must. 2 minutes drive away you have the Jardins de la Chartreuse du Colombier, a beautiful romantic and rustic private home (www.chartreuseducolombier.com)

Boat trips  - these are available from places such as Beynac, La Roque Gageac, Bergerac and Creysse and are a very relaxing way of seeing the chateaux and countryside from a different perspective:  www.gabarres.com

Golf there are a number of very good 9 and 18 hole golf courses within an hour’s drive. The closest are 20 minutes away  -  Golf de la Marterie

www.leslodgesdugolfdelamarterie.com ,

Golf de la Forge www.golfdelaforge.fr

and Golf de Lolivarie  www.lolivariegolfclub.com

Swimming  -  you can swim in the lake, in the Dordogne and Vézère rivers or in the municipal pools open in the summer.

Hot air ballooning  -  for an unforgettable experience: www.perigord-dordogne-montgolfieres.com
